Loretto’s PACE CNY Honors Volunteers of the Year
Each spring, PACE CNY, Loretto’s Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly in cooperation with St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center, honors volunteers at its Day Center locations in Syracuse and North Syracuse in celebration of national Volunteer Recognition Week.
In May of 2011, Christine Tubbert, of Syracuse, received the 2010 Volunteer of the Year award at PACE CNY’s north location. Tubbert is a two-year PACE volunteer who enjoys spending time with PACE CNY participants and is an integral part of PACE CNY’s therapeutic recreation department, especially as the official Wii bowling coach. A compassionate and caring volunteer, she motivates and teaches participants how to maximize their skills and even works on volunteer projects at home.
Also in May of 2011, Frank Blake, of Syracuse, received the 2010 PACE CNY Volunteer of the Year award at PACE CNY’s south location. Blake is a one-year PACE CNY volunteer and is in the Senior Employment Program through the Onondaga County Department of Aging and Youth. He received the award for “always having a smile on his face and helping program participants and staff with whatever is needed each day.”
Ginny Turley, PACE CNY intake, marketing and volunteer program director, says, “Christine and Frank are dedicated volunteers whose main concern is to ensure that our program participants are happy and have a fulfilling and purposeful experience while they are at the Day Centers. They are tremendous assets to the PACE volunteer program.”
